What's new on your lake?

Member Ronald Stephen Laase caught this 10 lb. whopper on a gorgeous Friday morning! May 7, 2010

February 12, 2010. Storms over the past weekend raised the lake level over a foot and a half. On Monday, February 8, 2010 the lake measured 5107.03 ft. ALA uses precision instruments to measure the lake level but the Full Line on the Tower gives us the important information: the Lake is Full!

Winter storms during the week of January 18-25, 2010 brought lots of snow and rain to the mountain.

If you have concerns about your dock or your boat still on the lake, we recommend you call a registered dock contractor that offers a dock monitoring service. Click here for a list of registered dock contractors.

This photo by Chris Walling shows how beautiful Lake Arrowhead is in the wintertime. To date, the storms raised the lake level by almost two feet!

ALA recently stocked the lake with 2600 pounds of trout. The fish are 8 - 10 inches in length and weigh ½ to ¾ of a pound each.

Fireworks Spectacular

As the sun began to set on a warm, sunny Fourth of July Saturday, the lake cleared, the moon became brighter and the stunning blue lake and sky took on a violet hue. Spectators gathered around the shoreline, at the Beach Clubs, at the Lake Arrowhead Village, on docks, at homes and in boats awaiting ALA's biggest event of the year. In the distance a low rumbling could be heard. Members and visitors looked up into the sky to see a massive Boeing C-17 Globemaster III airlift carrier thunder over the lake. Crowds cheered as it circled around and made another pass.

Soon a new excitement erupted. Hands were pointing up to the sky where you could see a trail of orange smoke from two skydivers drifting through the air from their parachutes displaying the American flag. They touched down amidst a roar of applause at the UCLA Conference Center.

Then, as the sky dimmed, lights began popping up on the surface of the lake. Boats were slowly moving toward the center of the lake anticipating another breathtaking show. Some boats were decorated with festive red, white and blue lights. Others played their radio on KOLA 99.9 FM looking forward to the fireworks show synchronized with music for the first time ever. As the mountains were silhouetted against the sky and the lake was dotted with hundreds of lights from boats floating on the water, the Fireworks show began exactly at 9:00 PM. Beautiful color burst into the sky and booming thunderous claps echoed around the lake. The fireworks twinkled, shimmered, glowed and streaked across the sky. The sensational display included grand moments with sprays of light shooting off the barge while exciting colors blossomed within enormous round bursts exploding overhead. The show climaxed with brilliant colors lighting up the lake and the faces of spectators cheering for more.

It was an amazing show and the ALA would like to thank all the members, businesses and organizations whose generous donations made it possible. It was a HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

A very special thank you to Timothy J. Harris, Lt. Col., USAFR, for our flyover. The 4th of July flyover was the massive Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, America's most versatile airlift aircraft. This aircraft is operated by the 452nd Air Mobility Wing at historic March Field, in Riverside California. It was flown by an Air Force Reserve aircrew from the 729th Airlift Squadron, also based at March Field.

Another special thank you to Mark Bayley, owner/manager of Lake Arrowhead Airport, for our skydiving show. The 4th of July jumps were performed by the Lake Arrowhead Airport Skydiving Team. Jumping from a Cessna 182 piloted by Dave Querry at 9500 feet, skydivers Lynn Fogleman and Rich Piccirilli (holding the flag) floated over Lake Arrowhead on a strong air current before landing at UCLA Conference Center. ALA's Trophy Trout
ALA's Trophy Trout
On June 13th, the ALA introduced their biggest trout ever at the ALA Lake Fair. But the trout didn't have a name so the the ALA Name the Trout Contest was held for children ages 4-14.

After receiving many clever entries, a winner was chosen! Tyler Klepper, age 10, won the Grand Prize for his entry "Trophy." The ALA trout now has a name: Trophy! Thank you, Tyler.

Four more young people also received awards for their entries:

  • 1st Runner Up: Cooper Rumbaugh, age 6, "Scout the Trout"
  • 2nd Runner Up: Emily Morton, age 13, "Mr. T"
  • 3rd Runner Up (tie): Varick Santana, age 12, "Dinner"
  • 3rd Runner Up (tie): Carly Gertsman, age 9, "Mr. Eat-a-Worm"

Thank you to everyone who submitted names. You were very creative!

Long time Lake Arrowhead resident Chris Walling took this lovely photo in May 2009. It truly captures Lake Arrowhead's unique springtime beauty. Submitted by Mark White. Chris Walling lake view

ALA Members are not the only ones enjoying the cool waters of Lake Arrowhead. Terry Wolfe photographed some beavers splashing and gliding around the lake in May 2009.

Don Latva enjoyed some great fishing on a warm, sunny Wednesday. He caught a whopping 6 lb. 7 oz. trout out of beautiful Lake Arrowhead. Thanks for sharing, Don! 2009-05-06

ABOVE: Please click on the album cover(top for first half of recording/bottom for second half) to hear a recording found by, and provided by ALA member Travis Winsor. He states: "The recording I found was an old 33 1/3 vinyl record. The cover art (seen above) indicates the recording was made by the Boise Cascade Properties Sales Corporation. It is narrated by Tom Harmon and his wife Elyse who take you on an 'armchair exploration of Lake Arrowhead.' It is a sales pitch for people to purchase property in the area. The year is unknown." Please enjoy! It is quite a treat.
